The Springfield Intruder recently purchased the Springfield Republican.
April fools.
Now that we got that out of the way….
FEDERAL BUILDING UPDATE:
U.S. Congressman Richard Neal got a little face time courtesy of a CBS 3 report by Lesley Tanner about the new Federal Building on State Street in downtown Springfield. In the story, Neal mentions that the new Federal Building is a good expenditure of public funds “considering this building will be here for the next 100 years.”
The next one hundred years? Highly unlikely. I bet they said the same thing about the old Federal Building (built in 1981) and the “old” Basketball Hall of Fame (opened in 1985).
While his cherished casino bill was floundering in the Massachusetts State House, Governor Deval Patrick did manage to score big in another area: Landing a $1 million-plus book deal to serve up his autobiography. We’re not sure yet which year Patrick will brag about in the “While I Was Governor” chapter of his new book – the first year, where his plan to cut the State’s anti-gang task force funding in favor of 500 hundred new beat cops fell flat on its face, or this year’s casino resort debacle.
No matter. A Barack Obama win will probably send Our Guy Deval packing to Washington D.C. anyway.
YES HE CAN.
BLOG REVIEW:
In blogging news, local blogger Victor Davila reports on a press release he received on the candidacy of Richard Howell (R-Wilbraham), who will be challenging Angelo Puppolo for his State Representative seat this November. Click here to be transported to Victor’s post.
New blogger/nuevo-journalist Brian Santaniello continues to develop his website, The Dread Report, with constant updates – adding and changing his front page content & layout quicker than you can say “my-mother-punched-your-mother-right-in-the-nose” one thousand times. One thing missing (so far) is an RSS or Atom feed for us lazy folks who don’t like surfing to every website in the Valley looking for new stuff. But then, much of his site is links to other sites, so I’m not sure how that would work out.
Northampton blogger Paolo Mastrangelo, who writes the Northamponist, has decided to leave the Happy Valley and move to New York City. He will be selling off all of his worldly possessions to make the trip, and you can check out a listing of what he has up for sale HERE.
And finally, in case you missed it, Holyoke had itself a St. Patrick’s Day Parade this past Sunday. Photos and a 9-minute video are available HERE.
