PROM CONTEST DEADLINE LOOMS:
Masslive sent forth the below announcement alerting anyone interested in its ongoing Prom Contest:

Attention parents, educators, coaches, friends, media, everyone:

It’s not too late to enter the MassLive.com Prom contest!

If you know a student in Western Mass. who excels in his or her studies or gives back to the community, then he/she is perfect for this contest! Here’s how to enter:

* Print out the attached entry form [click here] and give it to the student(s).
* The students write a brief paragraph (up to 300 words) about why they should win.
* The students attach a photo with their date.
* Send – or drop off – the form and photo to: MassLive.com, 32 Hampden Street, Springfield, MA, 01103 or fax everything to (413) 731-1000.
* Entries will be judged by WGGB, WGBY, Hampden Bank and Western New England College! Winner is announced in early April.

- CBS 3 reporter Lesley Tanner reports on the Springfield’s efforts to help prevent gang recruiting in the city.

- Channel 22 has this story on the approach of competitive auto insurance to Massachusetts.

- Springfield saw gunplay, a car chase, an alleged drug deal gone bad, and arson all in two related episodes last week as a first attack was followed up with a retaliatory firebombing. It began with gunfire and a car chase, and ended with a molotov coacktail being hurled into a home.
