Will Springfield’s new Community Police Hearing Board be any Better than the Board it Replaces?

by Bill Dusty

city-hall022 This week brought news from the Springfield Mayor’s Office of the creation of a re-vamped civilian police review board envisioned to replace the failed Community Complaint Review Board (CCRB), an “advisory board” that had been drowning in criticism since not long after its own birth in the latter weeks of 2007.

The new 7-member Community Police Hearing Board (CPHB) is set to formally convene this February 23 and will feature a couple of noticeable changes from the unpopular CCRB.

But will those changes be enough to satisfy critics who have had their own ideas on how best to reform the system?

Check out my commentary over at Masslive, here.
