Dissecting the Melvin Jones video

For us civilians, the thought of cops fighting crime is often similar to how we view soldiers in combat: We know what they sometimes have to do, but it’s still alarming when we see it happen. And had the cop who swung that flashlight in the Melvin Jones video been anyone other than Officer Asher – perhaps the most distrusted cop in the city’s minority community – then perhaps the incident might not have been as explosive as it has become.
