Fenton Receives Endorsements

by Bill Dusty

fentonOn Monday, Ward 2 Springfield City Council candidate Michael Fenton announced that he has received the endorsement of Springfield City Councilor Rosemarie Mazza-Moriarty.

Mazza-Moriarty, a city councilor since 2001, opted not to run for re-election this year as the city prepares to hold its first elections for ward representation. Under the new city council format, the number of city councilors will go up from nine members to thirteen, consisting of eight ward councilors and five at-large councilors. Currently, all nine councilors are at-large.

Fenton also announced that he has received the endorsement of former challenger Gil Perron. In last month’s preliminary election, Perron came in third behind top vote-getter Thomas W. Sullivan and second place finisher Fenton. Only the top two candidates move on to the November 3 general election.

“I am humbled to receive the support of both Gil and Rosemarie,” said Fenton in a Monday press release. “Gil ran a great campaign during the preliminary and I am honored that he has decided to back me.”

Regarding Mazza-Moriarty’s support, Fenton said, “I am equally happy to have the endorsement of the only city councilor presently from Ward 2.”

“Gil and Rosemarie have been leaders in this community for years and I look forward to using their input and advice as we work together to bring Springfield into the future we all know it deserves.”
