Stebbins to Step Away from Springfield Politics

by Bill Dusty

stebbins-08 Springfield City Councilor Bruce Stebbins has decided that he will not make a run for the office of Mayor of Springfield in 2009. Stebbins said he will also not run for re-election on the City Council this year.

Stebbins’ decision leaves the mayoral race to three contenders for 2009: Incumbent Mayor Domenic Sarno and challengers Bud L. Williams and newcomer David Parkhurst.

Widely regarded as one of the most honest politicians in the city, Stebbins opted not to run for re-election on the City Council this year at a time when the Council is switching from an all-at-large body to ward representation. There will be eight ward seats up for grabs in this year’s election and five at-large seats contested.

Stebbins currently works as regional director of the National Association of Manufacturers. He and his wife, Katie, are the parents of two daughters.

We have lost a capable and qualified leader of City government. Bruce was one of the three Councilors who understood the logical and finacial impact for each of our actions.

Wishing you Katie and the girls all the best. You have your priorities in the right order.
