The Massachusetts Career Development Institute (MCDI) is currently offering programs for those seeking training in the precision machining field. The deadline for applications is February 25, 2009. Classes start in March.
MCDI has teamed up with the members of the Western Mass. Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association, the Regional Employment Board, and the City of Springfield to offer the program, according to an email from MCDI president Timothy Sneed to the Springfield Black Chamber of Commerce. From the email: “The precision machining industry in Western Mass is in dire need of filling their staffing pipeline with trained employees, including entry level positions. These are excellent paying jobs with good benefits.”
According to a MCDI flyer, the program offers the following:
- Assessment required for program entry.
- 20 week course.
- Hands-on machine training using manual and CNC equipment.
- Blueprint reading and inspection processes.
- Day programs with flexible scheduling.
- Job placement assistance.
MCDI also offers adult education classes for people seeking their GED, Adult Basic Education, and English for Speakers of Other Languages, according to the flyer.
Interested applicants can contact MCDI at 413-781-5640 ext. 270
MCDI is a non-profit organization formerly attached to the City of Springfield. The Institute separated itself from the city and went private last fall, according to an October 4, 2008, Republican story. The MCDI has been offering educational classes and job training services since the 1979, according to the article.
MCDI is located at 140 Wilbraham Avenue, Springfield, MA 01109.
