REMINDER PUBLICATIONS LAUNCHES HOME IMPROVEMENT SITE:
Reminder Publications announced in their latest issue the launching of a new Web site featuring home improvement tips, local contractor listings, and design ideas for folks living in the 413 area code. The site, called HG413 Home Improvement, has categories ranging from kitchens and bathrooms to pools and gardens. Each section features design photos and articles with such topics as “Where to buy a spa,” and “Five Common Carpet Myths Debunked.” Contractors can list their businesses on the site, which includes a “Request a Bid” feature that visitors can use to seek out the best deals.

MACDUFFIE SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE:
According to a brochure from The MacDuffie School, the college preparatory school will be hosting an open house on Sunday, February 8, 2009, starting at 1:00pm. The school will also be hosting “Visit MacDuffie Week” from February 17 to the 20th (reservations required – call, 413-734-4971). The school teaches grades 6 to 12, with an average class size of eleven students, according to the brochure, which also boasts a 100% admittance to colleges for its 2008 class. The school has been operating since 1890.
The MacDuffie School is located at One Ames Hill Drive (Off of Maple Street), in Springfield.
2009 CITY AUCTIONS TO BEGIN:
The first city auctions for the 2009 season will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, with registration starting at 5pm and the auction starting at 6pm, according to a City press release. There are 36 properties available.

A 5% buyers premium covers the auction fee so the cost is added to each high bid which represents the final sale price. Anyone interested is strongly encouraged to visit these properties at the open houses scheduled for Sunday, February 8 from 11AM-1PM & 1PM-3PM. Auction participation requires bidders to come prepared with a certified or bank check made out to themselves in the amount of $5000 per property that they intend to bid on.

OUTLOOK 2009:
The Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield announced that “Outlook 2009″ will be held on February 9, 2009, at Chez Josef in Agawam, Mass. The program will begin at 11:45am. There will be an invitation-only social hour prior to that, at 11:15am.
The event will feature U.S. Congressman John Tanner (D-Tennessee). According to the Chamber Web site, Tanner “is a leader in the fight for fiscal responsibility, supports pro-growth economic policies, and is at the forefront in the fight to eliminate the federal debt.”
Congressman Richard Neal is scheduled to introduce Tanner, and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno will also take to the podium.
