Springfield’s annual Parade of the Big Balloons kicked of at 11:00am on Friday, November 28th. The weather was perfect for marching and for watching, as thousands of people lined either side of Main Street to catch the parade as it made its way from Lyman Street to the city’s South End.
According to the Parade website, there were eight big balloons in the parade – including Underdog and The Cat in the Hat, plus marching bands, cheerleaders, shiny trucks and cars, and – what would a parade be without them? – the Shriners. The Parade of the Big Balloons began in Springfield in 1991. Audrey Geisel, widow of Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), was the parade marshal.
