Mayor’s Communications Director Moves to School Dept.

by Bill Dusty

The Mayor’s Office announced via press release on Tuesday that Communications Director Azell Murphy Cavaan (right) has taken a job with the Springfield Public Schools as Chief Communications Officer there. In her place, the Mayor has promoted Attorney Thomas Walsh from his former position as Constituent Services Director. Walsh’s position at Constituent Services will in turn be taken up by new-hire James F. Leyden.

According to the press release, the salary for Communications Director is set at $61,000 per year. The salary for Constituent Services Director was listed as $50,000 per year.

This past Monday, the Springfield City Council voted 6-3 against a non-binding resolution proposed by City Councilor James J. Ferrara III that would have endorsed a “spending freeze” for the city.
