Up in Smoke: The Final Chapter of 58 Adams Street?

Several months ago, I chronicled my struggles with the owner of 58 Adams Street, an absentee landlord living it up in Longmeadow, MA (click here for that). Her property in the South End of Springfield was a constant eyesore of trash and overgrowth. After calls to her, ordinance enforcement, and finally City Hall and the police, the property was finally cleaned up this past August.

The owner was apparently not too interested in the property. In my only conversation with her this past spring, she asked me if I wanted to buy it from her. I declined.

The house went up in flames this past Saturday night. According to this story in the Republican, the fire caused about $100,000 worth of damage.

Will this be the end of my misadventures with 58 Adams Street? Or is this latest debacle a sign of more trouble to come?

Time will tell.

    Great shots Bill!

Keep up the pressure on absentee landlords. Springfield will be the next Holyoke if you allow this to continue.

    Bill,

You should have asked her what she would take for it. It’s apparent she wanted to sell and just get out.

Wonder how much renovation was put into it as well since it was “recently” done.

Granted the FD only “estimates” IMO the amount of damages (until you can go through, file claims, etc.) but if it’s $100K or roughly thereabouts, this home is virtually a total loss.
