Laurel Park – Longmeadow, MA

by Bill Dusty

Laurel Park, in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, is a cross between a small urban “pocket park” and a more expansive park. The open area of the park is actually quite small, but the park’s boundaries extend into the surrounding woods, with trails winding throughout. The open area faces a small pond, which was created by damming the Cooley Brook. Visitors park in a lot located by the open area. From there, there are paths into the woods, as well as a bridge to cross over Cooley Brook to a small forest on the other side. Laurel Park is located on Laurel Street, directly across the street from the better known Bliss Park. You need to be alert when driving up to the entrance, which is a plain-looking driveway that is easily passed if you’re not looking for it.

The bridge, with the dam located just to the left.

This thing is located in a gully on the other side of the bridge crossing.
What is it? A well of some kind?

Laurel Park is obviously not a destination for an extended road trip. But if you’re in the neighborhood and you’re looking for a peaceful spot to stop and take in some scenery, then it just might be a place to consider.
