At The Mattoon Street Arts Festival
by Bill Dusty
Attending the 36th Annual Mattoon Street Arts Festival on Saturday, September 6th, I snapped a few photos and met up with a few folks I’ve come to know through the years. Vender attendance on Saturday was influenced by the impending arrival of the remnants of Hurricane Hanna, with some venders opting not to setup until Sunday. But attendance was still good on the day, and while there I took the opportunity to swing by nearby Kimball Towers to check out their Open House, too, which was running on the same weekend (see that post here).
According to the Festival’s website, over 90 venders attended this year’s event. See below for some photos of the event.

Local painter Awilda Oxios had several pieces of her artwork on display…

Another paining by Awilda Oxios (above).

The Springfield Preservation Trust was also on hand.

Wilbraham vender Russell Diederich, of Tranquil Trees, had his artwork on display. Russell said his entire family helps out making wire sculptures. The tree shown above is made out of approximately 400 yards of copper wire and weighs in at about four pounds, according to Russell.

While wandering around, I stumbled upon Springfield City Councilor Bruce Stebbins, who lives on the Mattoon Street.

The festival also includes a few food venders.
