Gas Explosion in Springfield: One Day Later

Springfield, MA Gas ExplosionThe downtown gas explosion that leveled a strip club and smashed windows throughout the area has dealt the city of Springfield yet another harsh blow.

Still trying to recover from a devastating tornado that ripped through the area last year, the last thing the city needed was another disaster.

It got one anyway.

The strip club Scores was just about vaporized in the explosion, which left a vacant lot where once the building stood. Thankfully, no one was inside the building itself and the area had already been evacuated prior to the explosion. Still, as of Saturday afternoon the injury toll was reportedly up to 21 people, including firefighters, police, and gas company personnel.

Last night I visited the scene and got whatever photos I could in the darkened streets. (See those images here.) On Saturday, I again trekked out to the scene to gather more photos. Those images are below, along with a short, 2-minute video I put together from clips I took as I went along.

For a view of some raw footage showing the actual blast, visit WWLP’s website, here.

One Response to Gas Explosion in Springfield: One Day Later

  1. Hey, Springfield – I think we need abig shout out to our Mayor – Dominic Sarno – his last few years as Mayor have been anything but easy – tornado – freak October snow storm – fallen police officer – now a gas explosion – a couple hundred other things in between – and in every situation he remains calm and committed to the city and it’s people.
GREAT JOB – Mayor Sarno – much appreciated.
